Where do you live and is that the setting for your novel?
I’m currently living in Delaware in the US, outside of Philadelphia. My stories in my novel have settings in the US. Some are in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, and Georgia.
How did you come up with premise for Penetration for the Mind?
Was it something that you experienced? I came up with my book from my blog I started in 2012/2013. I was going through a bad relationship and began dating again in 2014. The stories are a combination of my imagination mixed with some personal experiences. Some characters are inspired by people that I knew during that time in my life I was dealing with my divorce.
Do you think writers need to feel strong, loving emotions in order to write a romantic novel?
I do believe people should have a passion for their work. In order to be creative, you should be able to feel different emotions to bring your characters to life. I don’t necessarily think you have to feel strong loving emotions but you should be able to understand your characters.
In one of my blog pieces, I discuss how to approach writing a novel, but it is mainly targeted towards those who want to write fantasy novels. What advice would you give someone on how to approach writing a romantic novel?
My advice is to don’t be afraid to make the characters vulnerable. The ability to give great descriptions from the characters to their emotions will help set the mood. In my stories, I give each story a plot about lessons you can learn from love. Sometimes we love the wrong people and sometimes we get it right. Romantic novels really just pull from relationship issues we all can relate to.
If you could give your younger self some advice about the writing process, what would it be?
I would tell myself to stay consistent and stay focused. When I write, I need to set the mood. Clear my mind and focus on the story I want to give the reader.
What time do you usually start writing and what do you find the hardest part about the writing process?
I usually write at night. The hardest part about writing is not getting occupied by outside noise. It can be friends, family, social media, or work. You just have to set time for yourself. Also, there are times when you don’t feel inspired
How has writing changed you?
Writing has made me more outgoing and willing to do things I would be to scared or shy to do in the past. I have been able to let go of many of my inhibitions and just take chances. If it works, great but if it doesn’t at least I went for it. I have also became more comfortable with my sexuality and my body. I have embraced my flaws and focus on my beauty from within.
